Duties
Help
As a Landscape Architect you will:
  • Function as the NIH Chief Landscape Architect.
  • Provide guidance and consultation on all aspects of landscape design, site development, and landscape maintenance.
  • Develop detailed plans, sketches, and specifications, and review current ground maintenance contract specifications for seasonal maintenance and improvement plans.
  • Perform site analysis, land use and vision planning, master planning, sustainable design, landscape and hardscape design, graphic renderings.
  • Develop innovative visions, concept plans, master plans, regenerative designs, and visualizations that exhibit a strong understanding of environmental and sustainability principles.
  • Maintain and apply comprehensive knowledge of the more common local weeds, insect pests, and diseases affecting trees, shrubs, perennials, and turf.
  • Provide landscape architectural services in coordination with engineers.

  • Position requires Education , and transcripts required.
  • Work is primarily sedentary but requires participation in site surveys and field investigations of landscaping and grounds conditions involves a considerable amount of walking and other forms of physical exertion.
  • If selected, you will be expected to obtain, and maintain a current Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia Pesticide Applicators Certificate (Categories 3A, 3C, and 6)
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE Form 450 required.

Qualifications
In order to meet the Basic Qualifications for a Landscape Architect, GS-0807 position, you must:
A. have a degree with a major in Landscape Architect or Landscape design; OR
B. have a combination of education and experience that includes, for each year short of graduation, at least 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design.
In addition to the above, in order to qualify for a Landscape Architect position at the GS-0830-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience at or at least equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1) Providing technical advice and guidance on landscape design, site development, and landscape maintenance; 2) administering fertilization, maintenance, and integrated pest management programs; 3) establishing long-range landscape development plans in accordance with federal, state, and local laws; 4) performing site visits to determine impacts of projects on landscape master plans; 5) developing regenerative landscape designs and visualizations.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
