The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Geotechnical Services (GS) is looking to hire a Senior Engineering Geologist (Sr GE) Specialist, in the Office of Geotechnical Design West (OGDW).
Under the direction of the Chief, OGDW, the Sr EG will provide technical expertise on geologically complex projects. The specialist provides support to Districts and DES partners in development of transportation projects by providing expertise and documents as necessary to support Planning, Design, Construction, Maintenance, and Legal. Duties include planning and executing investigations (desktop and field), conducting engineering geologic work and geotechnical evaluations, developing designs, and preparing preliminary and final Geotechnical Design Reports, Foundation Reports, and Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E). The specialist provides oversight of consultants and service contractors working on projects funded by the Department and/or local agencies. The specialist often functions as the lead person of a team as necessary to complete a project or task and represents the Office in meetings with internal and external partners. The Senior Engineering Geologist must be a licensed Professional Geologist and will be experienced in Project Development and the discipline of Engineering Geology as related to projects on the State Highway System. A Certified Engineering Geologist license is preferred. The position is focused on the Last Chance Grade project on Route 101 in District 1. The specialist works collaboratively with the project lead Senior Transportation Engineer for the Office and the project development team will provide oversight of the consultant geotechnical design team.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Appointment to this position requires p ossession of a valid certificate of registration as a geologist or geophysicist issued by the California Board of Geologists and Geophysicists.

The SOQ must inclu de education, training, and experience that qualify the candidate for this position. SOQ must be typed and no more than 2 pages, single-spaced, using 12-point font. 1. Describe your knowledge and experience related to landslides, tunnels, and rockfall mitigation systems.

4. Describe your experience in providing technical support and input to other professionals by conducting peer reviews and sharing knowledge and experience.
