Skills for Chicago

Is a Chicago-based nonprofit that removes barriers to employment by eliminating biases that disqualify candidates unnecessarily. Working with local and global companies, Skills brings opportunities to neighborhoods and municipalities throughout the Chicagoland area. To be eligible for Skills for Chicago services, candidates must reside in Illinois or Indiana, be authorized to work in the United States, and be either unemployed or underemployed.


University of Chicago

Facilities Services supports the mission of the University of Chicago through efforts to maintain and enhance the University campus and environment and provide superior client service to their community including faculty, students, staff, neighbors, and visitors.


Job Highlights
  • Maintain grounds through mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, snow removal, and debris cleanup
  • Perform landscaping tasks such as seeding, sodding, mulching, and minor tree removal
  • Operate and maintain equipment, tools, sprinkler systems, and University vehicles
  • Support campus events, assist with waste removal, and help onboard new employees
  • Follow safety protocols, requisition supplies, and use computers for job-related tasks

Candidate Profile
  • 2+ years of related experience is preferred; previous experience with irrigation systems is a plus
  • Valid driver's license is required and must pass University Motor Vehicle Record Check; Illinois Pesticide Operator’s license required within 6 months
  • Ability to use computers, read documents, perform math functions, and communicate effectively in English is required
  • Must meet physical demands, including lifting, kneeling, climbing, and working in extreme temperatures or confined spaces
