Job description

JOB SUMMARY
Under limited supervision of the Security Sergeant or Captain, the Security Officer provides security and protection of work site(s), personnel, and assets from events such as trespassing, assault, theft, vandalism, harassment, and other disruptive incidents at Chevron Phillips Chemical Port Arthur Plant. Comply with DUS and client safety guidelines, policies, and procedures.
The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but the company may identify other duties of the position. These responsibilities may differ depending on business necessities and client requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from the work site.
  • Military, law enforcement, or security experience preferred, but not required.
  • State of Texas Level II Unarmed Security Officer License (or ability to obtain).
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English.
  • As a condition of employment, must be able to successfully complete a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and a post-offer physical evaluation.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of two years of experience in law enforcement, military police, corrections, or private security company within the past five years. Military experience in an applicable specialty may be substituted for law enforcement experience.
  • Experience working in a refinery or plant
  • Experience working in the oil and gas industry
  • Certified in First Aid & CPR, refinery safety standards
  • Conversational Spanish
SKILLS/APTITUDES
  • Maturity of judgement and behavior.
  • Ability to present self in a highly professional manner with the understanding that honesty, integrity and ethics are essential.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully with all visitors, coworkers, vendors, supervisors, managers, customers and client representatives.

  • Must have basic phone and computer skills (email, texting, two-way radio, etc.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Perform searches of vehicles (random inspections) which may involve feeling and detecting objects, and walking over uneven terrain for long periods of time.
  • Confront suspicious persons, assess intentions, and take action as appropriate.
  • Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters.
  • Extinguish fires by using a fire extinguisher and other appropriate means.
  • Effectively and coherently communicate over radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications.
  • Gather information in investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of all participants and Reduce the results of those investigations into written form so as to clearly and accurately reflect the information obtained.
  • Read, comprehend, and employ policies and procedures.
  • Comprehend, evaluate, and correctly respond to oral information.
  • Operate a motor vehicle during both the day and night; in urban and rural setting.
  • Conduct visual surveillance for extended periods of time.
  • Observe, recall, and distinguish characteristics of persons, suspects, automobiles, location, property, to include colors, shapes, sizes, height, weight, abnormalities, changes or differences since last observed, and other distinguishing characteristics.
  • Understand and successfully execute post orders including enforcement of client and company policies, rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance and come to work in complete and clean assigned uniform (provided).
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.
  • May be required to report back to work as necessary for emergent matters.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as required.
  • Willingness to work at various locations as required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The employee will be required to work in a confined workspace such as a security guard post or patrol vehicle for extended periods of time and exposure to work assignments consisting of twelve-hour days and able to work day or night shifts as required. The majority of the work is performed in a refinery and railyard setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee's work requires routine walking, standing, sitting, bending, and carrying/lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds. Candidate will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical.
