Laboratory Chemist

Purpose of the role

This position will support the analysis of cigarette product manufacturing.  The position will be responsible for sample preparation, analysis of cigarette smoke condensate, tobacco and cigarette construction materials. The position requires significant collaboration with team members and management to complete quality and regulatory testing requirements within the specified time constraints.

 

Areas of Responsibility 

  • Performs smoke collection and prepares samples for further analysis by GC, GC/MS, HPLC, UPLC, HPLC/MS/MS and Ion Chromatography using multiple software platforms including Chemstation, Chromelon, and Masslynx.
  • Perform various sample preparation, extraction, and analysis techniques utilizing analytical methods while maintaining good scientific practices according to test facility requirements and regulatory agencies.
  • Installing, qualifying, calibrating and maintaining instruments and equipment.
  • Generate analytical data that is compliant with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) standards and ISO 17025 requirements, and write documents (i.e. protocols and final reports) that are compliant.
  • Developing analytical test methods to support both existing chemistry, and development of new industry standard methods.
  • Analyzes tests, monitor and standard data to assure results are within the guidelines.
  • Works closely with other scientists for specific projects and assists in any needed with analytical measurement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field
  • 0-5 years' experience in a laboratory environment
  • HPLC experience required
  • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation required
  • Ability to develop, troubleshoot, and validate analytical methods preferred
  • GLP or ISO 17025 experience preferred
  • Chromatography method development a plus
  • Working knowledge of standard software applications such as Chromatography Data Systems, Microsoft Office, LIMS and ERP
  • Strong math, analytical and computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (scientific), and strong ability to work as a team
  • Knowledge of tobacco manufacturing experience a plus
  • Knowledge of any of following instruments: GC, GC/MS, LC/MS/MS, ion chromatography (IC) and other analytical techniques is a plus
