Job Overview

Job Summary

The Pump Technician is responsible for high-quality repair of cryogenic pumps. The position performs disassembly, analysis, troubleshooting, and rebuilding of customer pumps. The Pump Technician must be highly productive and produce quality repairs on time and within budget to achieve complete customer satisfaction. The senior pump technician will be responsible for overseeing various safety and compliance measures.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret and work from drawings
  • Disassemble, analyze, and rebuild cryogenic pumps, accessories, and motors to optimize performance
  • Operate drill press, hydraulic press, bench grinder, pipe threading machine, pipe bender, cutting torch, band saw, and other shop equipment
  • Analyze condition of parts for causes of damage by operation in the field in order to communicate with customers and improve reliability
  • Perform assembly of cryogenic pump components
    • Fit, align, and adjust all components, including bearings and seals, and units to close tolerances and
    • Document all clearances on assembly clearance data sheet for review and approval of engineering
  • Check work to ensure conformance to specifications, instructions, and customer requirements on all drawings and work instructions per standard operating procedures
  • Perform troubleshooting as needed
  • Rework parts when necessary
  • Contribute input to failure analysis when requested
  • Maintain tools, equipment. and work area in accordance with 5S principles
  • Follow all quality, engineering, sales, and safety procedures
    • Coordinate, participate in, and potentially lead weekly and monthly safety meetings.
    • Ensure safety and compliance measures are met.
    • Lead shop's 5S initiative.
  • Maintain consistent and regular attendance to meet production schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance to customers
  • Communicate with customers regarding service evaluations and coordination of service-related issues
  • Meet customer and company production schedules at a rate of 80% on time or better
  • Perform all duties in accordance with OSHA standards and regulations and
  • Comply with company safety policies and procedures
  • Promote Customer Focus throughout the company
  • Support IMS requirements in areas of responsibility for conformance with international requirements and state and federal regulations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Qualifications

Competencies

  • Ability to read prints and schematics.
  • Analytical skills for cryogenic pumps.

  • Knowledge of basic AC/DC circuitry.
  • Understanding of materials of construction

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 7-8 Years of mechanical experience.
  • Cryogenic pump experience is ideal.
  • Experience in the industrial manufacturing industry preferred.

 

Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, type, and write.
  • Reach with hands and arms, bend, stand on a stool or climb, and use fingers and hands to feel and use objects, tools, or controls.
  • Use standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, copiers, etc.
  • Lift files and open desk drawers and filing cabinets.
  • Lift 50-100 pounds.
  • Work in shop environment, primarily at the Customer Center, however, may go to customer sites.

Work Environment

  • Job will generally be performed in a workshop environment.

  • Participate in other training as directed by the company or manager.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as required and direct others as appropriate.
