Job description

Part Time Security Officer

The Anaheim Convention Center (ACC), owned and operated by the City of Anaheim, reigns as the largest exhibit facility on the West Coast, hosting major, well-attended events such as the Winter NAMM Show, Disney's D23 Expo, VidCon, and more. Originally opened in 1967, the ACC now spans 53 acres with 1.8 million square feet of function space and numerous dynamic features. Our seventh expansion, completed in Fall 2017, added 200,000 square feet of flexible meeting space for our guests.

We are seeking dynamic, customer-service-oriented individuals to join our team as Part Time Security Officers. Under moderate supervision, Part Time Security Officers patrol the buildings and grounds of the Anaheim Convention Center to ensure security.

Current Recruitment Need:

  • This recruitment is intended to fill only Swing (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM) and Graveyard (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM) shift assignments. Applicants must be available to work either the Swing or Graveyard shift. Additional pay is provided for working the Graveyard Shift.

Anaheim Convention Center Security is a 24-hour, 7-day operation. This is a year-round, 30-hour part-time position. Candidates must be able and willing to work either the Swing or Graveyard shift, including weekends and holidays, subject to operational needs.

Essential Functions

The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Patrol facility, handle calls for service, and issue citations on the properties of the Convention, Sports and Entertainment Department either on foot, or on vehicle.
  • Patrol and issue citations on parking lots in the Convention Center or other City properties per direction of the City Council.
  • Lock and close gates, bollards, and doors, check for any hazards or safety issues, and either mitigate the issue or report it to the proper authority.
  • Check for water gas leaks and other hazards or malfunctions and take necessary action to have the problem corrected.
  • Take Identification photographs, receive lost items, and requests for recovery of such items.
  • Provide escorts as needed for safety precautions.
  • Issue and safeguard equipment such as city-owned vehicles, two-way radios, access cards, keys, and other various security equipment and electronic checkpoint software.
  • Exercise good, independent judgment and make sound decisions; understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Monitor and respond to computerized fire system; observe multiple panels in the security office to monitor doors, elevators, smoke detectors, and fire dampers; monitor numerous cameras throughout the facility.
  • Act as first responder to any emergency situation, including building alarms, evacuations, or medical incidents.
  • Conduct investigations as necessary of events occurring at assigned property and prepare a detailed, accurate, and complete report of the event; prepare event logs; maintain various spreadsheets, databases, and lists through the use of a personal computer for reporting purposes.
  • Ensure that building and City of Anaheim rules and procedures are being followed by everyone on the property.
  • Issue keys and equipment to facility employees.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications

License/Certification Required:

  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License by date of appointment.
  • Possession of a valid State of California-issued guard card by date of appointment.
  • A valid State of California-issued Proprietary Guard Card within six months from date of appointment.
  • Ability to obtain or qualify for AED/CPR training is desirable.

Experience: Journey-level experience as a Security Officer. An equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Knowledge of: City vehicle codes and parking laws; security methods, terminology, and equipment. Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Basic and legible report writing skills; City, State, and Federal rules, laws, and regulations as they apply to public health, public safety, parking, and public nuisance issues. Ability to: Effectively maintain interpersonal relations and diplomacy with people; demonstrate professionalism, ethics, cultural diversity and discrimination awareness; operate city owned radios, vehicles; write clear and accurate reports; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; read and understand departmental policies, rules, regulations and instructions; use discretion and sound judgment; work independently; maintain availability to work any shift, weekends, holidays and emergency call out without restriction.

Environmental Conditions: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents may be required to work in inclement weather. Physical Conditions: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to patrol the facility and/or grounds on a continuous basis, which includes climbing stairs, ladders, catwalks, and scaffolding as a routine part of security patrol and have good night vision. Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Supervision Received and Exercised: The position works under the technical supervision of the Lead Security Officer, who makes assignments and periodically reviews work. Anaheim Convention Center Security is a 24-hour, 7-day operation. This is a year-round, 30-hour part-time position.
