Senior Court Clerk

The Dougherty County Clerk of Court is hiring for a Senior Court Clerk. The purpose of this position is to perform clerical and other support duties in the maintenance of permanent, accurate records for the Dougherty County Judicial System. Responsibilities may vary due to assigned department. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential tasks include:

  • Performs routine office tasks such as answering the telephone and interacting with public.
  • Gathers and provides information to judges, attorneys, supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
  • Gathers and distributes incoming mail; operates computer, office machinery (i.e., facsimile, copier, scanners and calculators).
  • Examines and enters system records to ensure proper coding and accuracy.
  • May enter information into database; file, cancel, index, process, review and record cash receivables for dispossessory warrant cases, real estate documents, plats, UCC filings, liens, and other warrants/citations or civil claims.
  • May file, record, index, and process dispossessory warrants, defendant answers, requests for hearings, writs for abandoned vehicles, interrogatories, orders of the court, citizen warrants, bad check citations and warrants, hearing notices, and other related documents.
  • May file, record, index and reproduce Notary Public Certificates, Grand Jury Presentments, Orders of the Court, and State Bar Certificates.
  • May input computer information and maintain files on motions, demands, requests, summons, subpoenas, writs, good behavior warrants, search warrants, commitment hearings, statement of claims, writs of possession, interrogatories, state's notice, and traffic violations to maintain accurate records.
  • May input computer information related to the scheduling of hearings and on final dispositions and sentences.
  • May file documents pertaining to dispossessory cases; handle all dispossessory appeals to State or Superior Court; file documents pertaining to cash bond forfeitures; prepare warrant withdrawal letters from Sheriff, requests for continuances, consent judgements and settlements; files and processes court documents pertaining to civil and felony cases; handle all felony and civil appeals.
  • May attend court sessions and strike juries.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of clerical experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
