Senior Multi‑Axis CNC Setup & Process Machinist (Aerospace)

Location: Detroit, Michigan
Compensation: $24 – $32 per hour based on experience + overtime eligible

Kintara is partnering with a premier precision manufacturer serving aerospace and advanced industrial customers. You’ll thrive in a high‑mix, low‑ to medium‑volume environment where owning the process—from first setup to final inspection—is the norm.

A day in your life here

You start by reviewing job travelers and complex prints with tight GD&T. You select tooling, design or refine a fixture, and bring a multi‑axis turning or milling center online. Offsets are dialed, feeds and speeds are tuned, and a First Article Inspection (FAI) is completed with documentation. Mid‑shift, you’re mentoring a teammate on workholding strategy while the current job moves through in‑process checks on a CMM and surface plate with micrometers, bore gauges, and indicators. By day’s end, you’ve updated setup sheets, solved a chatter issue, tightened a tolerance, and captured a process improvement for the next run.

What you’ll own
  • End‑to‑end setups and operation of multi‑axis CNC turning and milling equipment
  • Tooling selection, offsets, feeds/speeds, and real‑time process optimization for tight‑tolerance work
  • Creation and validation of fixtures and workholding for complex components
  • Leading FAIs and completing all required documentation
  • In‑process dimensional checks using CMMs, surface plates, and precision metrology
  • Troubleshooting tool wear, chatter, dimensional variation, and instability
  • Interpreting advanced GD&T, engineering drawings, and customer specs
  • Maintaining setup sheets, process documents, and production records
  • Identifying improvements that boost quality, efficiency, and throughput
  • Mentoring less experienced machinists and serving as a floor‑wide technical resource
What you’ll bring
  • 10+ years of precision CNC machining experience
  • Hands‑on expertise with multi‑axis turning and milling (4‑axis and/or 5‑axis)
  • Deep knowledge of fixture design and workholding
  • Proven experience executing FAIs and documentation
  • Advanced GD&T fluency
  • Proficiency with CMMs and precision tools: micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, and surface plates
  • Mastery of feeds, speeds, and tooling for steel, stainless, and aluminum; titanium/advanced alloys a plus
  • Background in AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar regulated environments
  • Independent decision‑making and minimal‑supervision execution
  • Bonus: CAM programming experience (Mastercam and/or GibbsCAM)
