General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for a Resident Chaplain I to join our team at Washington Hospital Center!
The Resident Chaplain I provides spiritual care services and coordinates spiritual care program on an interfaith basis in assigned clinical area. Participates in clinical pastoral education program as defined by the Standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education.

Primary Duties:
  • Provides spiritual care, guidance and comfort to patients, families, and Hospital employees. Visits patients, and responds to spiritual needs, providing counsel and advice concerning problems and questions of spiritual guidance and personal adjustment.

  • Assists the Department of Spiritual Care with the coordination of spiritual services as an administrative unit chaplain in assigned clinical areas, and through on-call duties, special projects, and worship leadership.

  • Participates in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training, student membership within the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, and departmental meetings, planning, and activities.

  • Participates in the orientation of prospective students for the CPE program. Participates in admission interviews of applicants for community outreach, seminary affiliated practicum and CPE programs.

  • Assists with the CPE curriculum for Chaplain interns. Provides leadership in the department's Community outreach programs as assigned (such as the Cancer Residency for Spiritual Caregivers).

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in theology or equivalent training at an accredited religious seminary or theological school.

  • One unit of ACPE accredited clinical pastor education (CPE) training.

  • Half a credit of CPE training will be accepted at the discretion of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Certified Educator at Medstar Washington Hospital Center.

  • Related job experience.

  • Faith group ordination or equivalent preferred.
