Chair, Department of Pediatrics โ€“ Columbia, South Carolina

Prisma Health, South Carolinaโ€™s largest notโ€‘forโ€‘profit health system, seeks a collaborative, distinguished and experienced leader to serve as the Chair, Department of Pediatrics โ€“ Midlands for Prisma Health and the University of South Carolina Kay and C. Edward Floyd, M.D. School of Medicine. The Chair also serves as the Sr. Medical Director of the freeโ€‘standing childrenโ€™s hospital, providing physician leadership over its services and quality.

Position Overview

The Chair provides strategic and operational oversight of all divisions within the Department of Pediatrics, guiding the advancement of clinical services, education, and research. This role is responsible for setting the departmental vision, driving operational and financial performance, and fostering faculty success while advancing highโ€‘quality, patientโ€‘centered pediatric care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides strategic and clinical leadership to advance highโ€‘quality, patientโ€‘centered pediatric care across the region
  • Drives departmental growth and recruitment, expanding access to care and strengthening specialty services
  • Leads innovation in clinical care, advancing standards, outcomes, and adoption of new technologies and treatments
  • Oversees financial performance, ensuring responsible stewardship and longโ€‘term sustainability of the department
  • Builds strong partnerships with referring providers, health systems, and community stakeholders to enhance regional impact
  • Fosters a culture of excellence, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and professional satisfaction
  • Champions academic mission, supporting education, faculty development, and growth of research and scholarly activity
Candidate Profile
  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution with board certification in Pediatrics
  • Eligibility for appointment at the Associate or Professor level at the University of South Carolina Kay and C. Edward Floyd, M.D. School of Medicine
  • Demonstrated success in academic medicine, clinical leadership, and faculty development
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead effectively within a complex, matrixed healthcare system
  • Evidence of serving as a child advocate
  • A passion for innovation, education, mentorship, and patientโ€‘centered care
