What will you be doing!
- Supporting the Development of the Fusion Program at CN:
- Supporting the development of CNL's fusion program by identifying and advancing areas where CNL can build and expand capabilities to progress fusion technologies.
- Coordinating and supporting fusionrelated activities with multiple stakeholders, including machine shops, research groups, and operational teams.
- Assisting with the planning, coordination, and execution of activities associated with the fusion program at CNL.
- Supporting Activities Associated with the Centre for Fusion Energy (CFE):
- Coordinating activities within the Centre for Fusion Energy to ensure effective collaboration and alignment.
- Supporting the administrative operations of the Centre, including preparing communications and facilitating coordination between CNL and other CFE member organizations.
- Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external CFE stakeholders.
- Coordinating Research Activities at CNL:
- Managing and coordinating the scheduling of research activities, including collaboration with groups outside the Hydrogen and Tritium Directorate.
- Tracking, compiling, and reporting on the progress of research projects.
- Monitoring, tracking, and reporting on deliverables and milestone achievement throughout the year.
- Communication and Stakeholder Relations:
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assisting in aligning priorities, objectives, and expectations across stakeholder groups.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- At minimum, a Bachelor's (Honour) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
- A Ph.D. or master's degree in nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering physics, chemistry, physics or a related scientific field is preferred and would be considered an asset.
- Experience
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a broad scientific or engineering discipline - such as nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, or related fields - with strong preference for expertise in fusion technologies.
- Experience operating laboratory- and/or large-scale test loops.
- Significant related engineering work experience.
- Experience in chemical or nuclear process engineering is considered an advantage.
- Experience with process simulation using commercial modelling tools is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing technical proposals, budgeting, and project planning is desired.
- Must possess a broad scientific and engineering foundation supported by formal education and substantial professional experience.
- Significant experience in fusion technologies
- Experience with excelling in working with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must possess a well-rounded scientific and engineering foundation supported by formal education and demonstrated through progressive technical and organizational responsibilities.
- Demonstrated solid understanding of the Canadian nuclear industry, as well as fusion technologies, including R&D priorities, process and product qualification requirements, and comprehensive technology, program, and project management practices.
- A demonstratedstrong passion for science, technology, and innovation and a proven track record in project/program management.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality technical work, apply sound leadership principles, and foster a collaborative, solution-oriented work environment.
- A demonstrated strong technical foundation including advanced knowledge of scientific and engineering principles, materials science, and/or process modelling.
- A broad understanding of the national and international fusion landscape is considered a major asset.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skillsalong with the ability to align scientific objectives, operational needs, and organizational priorities.
- Strong knowledge of safety procedures is essential.
- Familiarity with quality Assurance (QA) requirements, licensing processes, and applicable design codes for technical projects is an asset.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:
- Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
- This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in their Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you'll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
- The scope of duties may require extra hours of work.
- Travel and remote working may be required periodically.
- Frequently called upon to provide information and make presentations on short notice, both to internal and external groups.

This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL's Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee.
