Job description

Position Summary

The Senior Project Accountant is responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process including categorizing, recording, analyzing and monitoring costs and billings associated with a large construction project as well as several smaller less complex projects. This position also assures vendor compliance in order to manage project risk. This role is assigned to a large construction project, working closely with the Project Manager to assure timely and accurate accounting and risk management throughout the project life cycle.

Position Details

  • Compiles, prepares and analyzes monthly project billings per contract requirements for more complex accounts.
  • Monitors budgets and commitments, processing subcontractor and vendor invoices, preparing drafts of owner invoices, and resolving issues.
  • Partners with the project manager and other team members to monitor overall job financial status.
  • Collaborates by preparing for and attending progress and division meetings.
  • Prepares monthly reports with current estimates and identifies risks or opportunities.
  • Prepares special analyses as required.
  • Serves as mentor and provides training to or supervise less-experienced Project Accountants.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent preferred
  • 5+ years of Project Accounting experience preferred
  • Experience in construction preferred
  • Excellent accounting knowledge
  • Excellent organization skills with high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to transfer knowledge to junior level staff
  • Excellent ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Excellent to analyze and resolve difficult issues
  • Excellent ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Excellent computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc. required
  • Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
