Job description

Description

The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating the successful execution of new product development, product enhancement, and certification projects throughout the product lifecycle. This position owns the Clarke Fire Protection Products (CFPP) Stage-Gate process and serves as the central point of coordination between Engineering, Production, Quality, Materials Management, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with business objectives. The Engineering Project Manager develops and maintains project plans, facilitates cross-functional collaboration, manages project risks and priorities, and provides portfolio visibility to leadership. This role plays a critical part in driving organizational accountability, improving project execution processes, and supporting successful product launches that meet business requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Stage-Gate Process Ownership

  • Own the existing CFPP project Stage-Gate process and all activities associated with it.
  • Maintain Stage-Gate templates, forms, presentations, and process documentation.
  • Verify required deliverables are completed and facilitate Gate review meetings.
  • Continuously improve the Stage-Gate process based on lessons learned and organization needs.

Portfolio Management & Prioritization

  • Maintain visibility of all active CFPP development and certification projects.
  • Monitor project portfolio health and escalate schedule, resource, cost, and technical risks to management.
  • Support project prioritization activities and resource allocation discussions.
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of new product ideas and support creation of project charters and business cases.

Project Initiation

  • Facilitate project initiation activities including scope definition, technical requirements, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Conduct project kick-off meetings.

Project Execution & Coordination

  • Create / maintain project schedules.
  • Coordinate activities between Engineering, Production, Materials Management, Quality, Sales, Marketing and Customer Support.
  • Facilitate resolution of project issues requiring cross-functional collaboration.
  • Identify, document, communicate, and manage project risks throughout project lifecycle.
  • Maintain project issue and action item tracking (Open Items Lists).

Product Launch Readiness

  • Coordinate, facilitate, and lead product launch readiness activities including Engineering, Production, Materials Management, Quality, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support deliverables.

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare and present project portfolio status updates to management and CFPP Steering Team leadership.
  • Develop project performance metrics and reporting tools.

Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct lessons learned meetings.
  • Continuously review current processes and procedures, and identify improvement opportunities to reduce waste, rework, and non-value-added activities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Based on business needs, assist, support, and / or perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar project management role within a manufacturing or industrial environment. (5 to 10      year's experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in project management, engineering, or a related field.  Demonstrated experience in a similar role is a plus.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with new product development and certification projects.
  • Experience facilitating meetings and driving action item closure.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to interpret project schedules and resource plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Ability to facilitate decision-making among diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills (technical, written and verbal).
  • Superior interpersonal communication skills and relationship building.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with health and safety guidelines and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Smartsheet or equivalent project management software.
  • Good report writing skills and proficiency in data analysis tools.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar methodologies.
  • Project Management Institute PMP certification a plus.
