A Certified Professional Medical Coder (CPC) is a healthcare professional who specializes in reviewing clinical documents and assigning standardized medical codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services. These codes are essential for accurate billing, insurance claims, and maintaining patient records. CPCs work in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and physician offices, ensuring that the coding process complies with regulatory standards like CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS. Obtaining CPC certification typically involves passing an exam administered by the AAPC, demonstrating proficiency in medical coding guidelines and practices.
