As a Building Environmental Scientist with Terracon you will generate cost estimates and proposals; mentor junior staff; track/manage progress of field projects, project budgets, and project work; track and manage client relationships; and manage/perform field investigations.  Duties include assistance to the department manager in training/mentoring junior staff in the performance of field work (asbestos/lead/mold inspections, project designs and air-monitoring of abatement projects) and drafting reports, and managing client relationships including business development.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or related science. 

  • TDSHS licenses and certifications in the field of expertise required.
  • TDSHS Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor certification is a plus.
  • Mold Assessment Consultant license is preferred.
  • This position requires the employee to work flexible hours and occasional weekends.      Occasional overnight travel and out-of-town mobilization of up to 2 weeks may also be required.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Essential Role and Responsibilities:

  • As a Building Environmental Scientist with Terracon, you will perform duties related to asbestos / lead / mold inspections, abatement / remediation air monitoring, and project management.  You will also evaluate respective data, prepare reports, and take part in other environmental consulting projects.  This position requires licensure with the Texas Department of State Health Services as an Asbestos Inspector, Air Monitoring Technician, Project Manager.  This position will lead to licensure as a Mold Assessment Consultant and certification as a Lead Inspector or Lead Risk Assessor.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects.      Participate in pre-task planning.      Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Conduct building inspections in accordance with Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) guidelines.
  • Conduct building inspections in accordance with Mold Assessors and Remediators Rules (MARAR).
  • Conduct building inspections in accordance with Texas Environmental Lead Reduction Rules (TELLR).
  • Development of business relationships with clients to secure future work, and working closely with junior staff to ensure meeting of critical performance deadlines within assigned budgets.
  • Evaluates moderately complex laboratory and field data, able to coherently summarize data into draft report format, using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Adobe Acrobat.
  • Proficient scientific professional responsible for conducting site testing and making recommendations for systems design on smaller projects of minimal complexity.  
  • May assist more senior scientists/engineers on large, more complex projects. 
  • Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments, May work in the office, lab or in the field.
