Job description

Role: Venafi Certification Engineer

Location: Chicago, IL (day1 onsite, Hybrid role )

Duration:  Contract 

 

Job Description:

  • 10+ years of experience in PKI, certificate management, or machine identity management and 4+ years of Hands-on experience with Venafi TPP and/or Venafi as a Service.
  • Strong understanding of: PKI concepts, X.509 certificates, TLS/SSL, Certificate Signing Requests (CSR), Key management, Cryptographic standards
  • Experience integrating with enterprise Certificate Authorities and public CA providers.
  • Knowledge of certificate lifecycle management processes including issuance, renewal, revocation, and expiration tracking.
  • Experience with scripting or automation using: PowerShell, Python, Bash, REST APIs
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident resolution skills in certificate and PKI environments.
  • Understanding of security best practices related to encryption, secrets, and key protection.
  • Design, deploy, and manage Venafi solutions for enterprise certificate lifecycle management.
  • Configure and maintain certificate discovery, monitoring, renewal, and revocation processes.
  • Integrate Venafi with internal and external Certificate Authorities (CAs) such as Microsoft CA, DigiCert, Entrust, or other PKI providers.
  • Automate certificate provisioning and renewal for servers, applications, load balancers, APIs, and cloud-native platforms.
  • Manage machine identities, private keys, and cryptographic assets in accordance with security standards.
  • Implement policy-based governance for certificate issuance, renewal, and expiration tracking.

Integrate Venafi with infrastructure components such as: 

  • Web servers, Application servers, Load balancers, Kubernetes, Cloud platforms, DevOps pipelines
  • Work with security, infrastructure, and application teams to reduce certificate-related outages and improve security posture.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team
