A ceramic tile installer or tile setter is responsible for installing tile flooring in homes, businesses, and other buildings. As a ceramic tile installer, your job duties revolve around the installation of ceramic tiles using various tile setting techniques and materials. You may also work with other materials such as marble, porcelain, granite, vinyl, or composite tiles. You must be adept at aligning tiles, applying grout, sealing the finished surface, and cutting tiles to create the desired pattern without any gaps. You must also be able to safely use special power saws to cut ceramic tile without damaging it.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a ceramic tile installer?

To thrive as a Ceramic Tile Installer, you need proficiency in measuring, cutting, and setting tiles, along with a strong understanding of building codes and construction techniques, often supported by a high school diploma or apprenticeship experience. Familiarity with tools such as tile cutters, wet saws, trowels, and levels, as well as knowledge of adhesives and grout, is essential. Attention to detail, physical stamina, and effective communication with clients and team members are important soft skills that set top installers apart. These skills ensure precise, durable installations and satisfied clients, which are crucial for reputation and repeat business in the construction industry.

  • Build out shower stalls and tub surrounds from preparation through final installation
  • Ensure tile is level, properly aligned, evenly spaced, and securely bonded

  • Coordinate effectively with carpenters, plumbers, designers, and other trades
  • Follow all jobsite safety requirements
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience as a tile setter, preferably in residential remodeling
  • Demonstrated experience building and tiling shower stalls and tub surrounds
  • Strong knowledge of tile installation methods, waterproofing systems, mortars, adhesives, grout, sealants, and related materials
  • Experience installing ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, mosaic, and large-format tile
  • Ability to perform accurate measurements, layouts, cuts, and pattern work
  • Ability to work independently and complete installations with limited supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship
  • Clear communication and reliable follow-through
  • Ability to meet project timelines and coordinate with other trades
  • Proper tools, transportation, and insurance required for subcontract work
  • Physical ability to lift materials, kneel, bend, climb, and work in active residential construction environments
What Success Looks Like
  • Tile installations are level, properly spaced, securely bonded, and visually consistent
  • Shower stalls and tub surrounds are correctly prepared and waterproofed
  • Work is completed according to BRYJO specifications and project schedules
  • Finished areas are clean, protected, and ready for client review
  • Material needs and field issues are communicated before they cause delays
  • Clients and project teams receive professional, dependable service

Why Work With BRYJO
  • Hourly Wage of $23-25 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Eligble for half medical, and all of dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • PTO
  • Established residential remodeling company with more than 25 years of experience
  • High-quality projects where craftsmanship and details matter
  • Professional Project Managers and organized project communication
  • Opportunities for consistent subcontracting work
  • Collaborative environment built around integrity, accountability, and client satisfaction
  • Opportunity to build a long-term relationship with a respected remodeling company
