Salary: 18.50 per hour

POSITION: Funeral Assistant (Part-Time)

Sol Levinson & Bros., one of the largest and most successful funeral homes in the Baltimore metropolitan area, is seeking a Part Time Funeral Assistant. As an industry leader and influential member of the community for over 130 years, Sol Levinson is committed to providing the families we support with the best and most professional service possible. This is a part-time position with occasional holiday coverage.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under direct supervision of management, performs various duties with regards to the operation of the funeral home, such as driving limousines, picking up and transporting human remains, and running errands as directed.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare the facilities for funerals, including cleaning, arranging chairs, and other elements according to the wishes of the bereaved family.
  • Pick up and transport decedents from hospitals, nursing homes, private residences, airports, cemeteries, crematories, between funeral homes, or wherever a death may occur.
  • Drive limousines with families from their residence to the funeral home, cemetery, or any other location.
  • Operate and drive company equipment such as hearses, limousines, vans, or executive cars for funeral or arrangement purposes or for any other reason asked by management.
  • Deliver and pick up shiva equipment to and from family homes.
  • Direct mourners and guests to proper chapels and outside facilities.
  • Line up cars in the parking lot for processions and stop traffic on public roads to help funeral procession.
  • Wash and maintain automobiles as directed.
  • Receive, stock, and lift caskets out of casket truck and store in our storeroom.
  • Lift caskets with human remains into vehicles and onto the grave at the cemetery.
  • Assist pallbearers at the cemetery in a safe manner.
  • Secure death certificates or burial/transit permits from doctors, hospitals, nursing homes, registrars, consulates, or any other location.
  • Run errands such as going to the bank, health department, gas station, picking up lunches, etc.
  • Shovel snow and use snow blower and salt spreader.
  • Use ladder to reach and store objects throughout the building.
  • Assist with all duties performed by our maintenance staff.
  • Take initial information for death calls.
  • Answer telephones and assist the administration team as necessary.
  • Assist in preparation room as necessary.
  • Assist in training of new employees in the Operations unit.
  • Communicate with management team any issues with any of the above tasks.
  • Represent Sol Levinson & Bros., Inc. in a professional and dignified manner at all times at the funeral home, other facility, or anywhere in the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Capable of assisting in moving heavy and/or bulky objects and standing for long periods of time.
  • Walk up and down flights of stairs.
  • Periodically operate power tools.
  • Lift objects overhead and periodically bend and kneel.
  • Be able to withstand all daily outdoor weather conditions while performing duties outlined above.
  • Speak professionally and communicate in clear and proper English.

SCHEDULE:

  • This is an on-call position with a variable schedule.
  • Availability on weekends and for on-call overnight shifts strongly preferred

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess a valid and current drivers license.
