POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Construction Engineer II at LJA in our Transportation department, you will be responsible for supporting the oversight of roadway, bridge, and transportation construction projects by inspecting contractor work, documenting project progress, coordinating material testing, and ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and contract requirements. They work closely with engineers, contractors, and clients to identify construction deficiencies, maintain project documentation, monitor quality and safety standards, and communicate project status throughout the construction process.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Support Construction Engineers and inspection staff on transportation construction projects.
  • Perform inspection tasks in the field under the supervision of Engineers and Lead Inspection staff in support of bridge, retaining wall and roadway construction.
  • Support CEI team in efforts to identify, document and address deficiencies in the work of the Contractor and Sub‑Contractors.
  • Assist Construction Engineers with the management of project documentation including RFIs, Submittals, Correspondence, NCRs, and Change Orders.
  • Work with various software programs to maintain project drawings, daily work reports and documents.
  • Ensure contractor work and documentation is in conformance with contract requirements and technical provisions.
  • Coordinate material testing and sampling of construction materials to ensure compliance with Materials Testing and Sampling Schedule.
  • Complete training on Environmental Compliance (SWPPP) and Management of Traffic (MOT).
  • Compile construction data to develop monthly reports for the Client.
  • Coordinate and communicate with oversight team on project issues and progress.
  • Perform constructability reviews of contract plans.
  • Attend Contractor and Client meetings as needed.
  • 75/25 balance in Office to Field duties.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering is required
  • Engineer-in-Training or ability to obtain in 12 months

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience preferred
  • Ability to build strong relationships
