Job description

RK&K is seeking a qualified Construction Inspector I to enhance our Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) operations for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and municipal transportation projects. This role is essential for leading field inspections, conducting materials testing, and ensuring thorough documentation to guarantee quality and successful project delivery.
Essential Functions
  • Promote an ethical work environment.
  • Foster effective communication with personnel, clients, contractors, and the public.
  • Support all aspects of contract administration from preconstruction to project close-out.
  • Perform quality assurance inspections under the guidance of senior personnel.
  • Provide documentation to ensure materials compliance.
  • Prepare daily reports on contractor progress and address on-site issues.
  • Attend project-related meetings as directed.
  • Supervise less experienced inspection team members as needed.
  • Report daily to project sites or RK&K office as required.
  • Provide accurate documentation to support monthly and final pay estimates.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in heavy civil infrastructure construction inspection.
  • Certifications in OSHA, ACI, HMA Level 1B, and other applicable TxDOT training.
  • Understanding of the project lifecycle from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Experience with roadways, bridges, structures, traffic control, and environmental compliance.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
  • Familiarity with TxDOT's Quality Assurance Program.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AASHTOWare, and ProjectWise.
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to pass a Criminal History Background Check.

Physical Demands
This role requires the ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and climb ladders or stairs. Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20-30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may include exposure to construction-related hazards.
