Job description

Knoxville Habitat for Humanity (KHFH) is looking for a Development Coordinator to join our team! This role works closely with Chief Development Officer (CDO) to execute stewardship, donor relations, event management, grant writing, and volunteer management. The position also requires coordination of meetings, programs and other elements designed to enhance positive relations with all philanthropic partners of KHFH.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the CDO to establish long-term goals and objectives for each contribution category.
  • Develop clear lines of communication with all staff.
  • Assist CDO in budget creation and review for development department each fiscal year.
  • Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the CDO.


  • Stewardship and Donor Relations Responsibilities
    • Oversees the timely movement of stewardship and donor relations activities in the donor lifecycle.
    • Provide strategic direction of all campaigns and activities related to monthly giving support.
    • Conduct prospect research and review with CDO on individuals, corporations, and foundations using all available sources, with specific attention on philanthropic capacity and inclination.
    • Serve as the primary contact for monthly donors and special groups.
    • Maintain and keep current donor files, narratives, and other related information in DonorPerfect (or current CRM software).
    • Collaborate quarterly with Partnerships Manager and Data Manager to create screening of new and recaptured donors and report results.
    • Routinely meet with Development Team to collaborate on corporate, foundation, and individual fund development opportunities.
    • Collaborate with staff to assist the CDO and other Development staff in grant research, grant writing, grant cycle monitoring, grant proposal submissions, and grant cycle reporting.
  • Event Responsibilities
    • Collaborate with the Partnerships Manager to execute events and events fundraising.
    • Build and maintain accurate contact lists (addresses, emails, and phone numbers) for event related material.
    • Assist in the creation of effective event related marketing materials, in partnership with the Marketing and Communications team.
    • Build and maintain accurate records of events.
    • Following existing event timelines, notify affiliate staff of volunteer opportunities to support execution of events.
    • Oversee the implementation of special event activities including coordinating and securing venues and contractors, and secure event volunteers.
    • Assist in the development of event budgeting.
  • Volunteer Management Responsibilities:
    • Oversees and manages all volunteer activities for the affiliate, including but not limited to Volunteer Recruitment, Volunteer Placement, Volunteer Coordination, and Volunteer Retention and Recognition.
    • Produce monthly reporting from VolunteerHub.
    • Oversee team builds and dedications.


Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Stay current on development and fundraising initiatives of Habitat for Humanity International and Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee.
  • Support Data Manager as needed.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications staff to update, design, and maintain website content and social media promotions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill the mission of KHFH.
  • Regular, predictable attendance required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Knoxville Habitat for Humanity’s mission and values.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field and subject (relevant fields include but are not limited to: business administration, marketing, communications, and public relations).
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written communication skills and command of English language and grammar, with the ability to compose, edit, and proofread materials.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects within assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Reasonable comfort level with ambiguity and evolving institutional priorities.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must meet the physical requirements of job, including lifting and/or moving 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Aptitude and/or experience in using management software (examples: Monday.com, Salesforce, and DonorPerfect).
  • Experience working with a non profit.
  • Experience working in sales, business development or non profit fundraising.
