Miracle Workers Alliance (MWA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving mental health through community support and engagement. We create safe online inclusive spaces where individuals are able to thrive.

Our current programs, including Gamers for Wellness & Peer Support, provide mental health resources through innovative and interactive platforms such as online gaming, virtual events, and 1-on-1 support on Discord.

Role Overview

MWA is seeking a passionate and proactive Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead our fundraising, donor relations, and resource development efforts. This volunteer executive role is ideal for someone eager to make a tangible impact in mental health advocacy while building valuable experience in nonprofit leadership.

As CDO, you will develop and implement strategic fundraising initiatives, steward donor relationships, and explore opportunities for sustainable growth through grants, sponsorships, and creative campaigns. Youโ€™ll work closely with the CEO and leadership team to ensure MWAโ€™s mission is financially supported and scalable.

Commitment 15โ€“40 hours per week (remote). We are flexible.
Compensation Unpaid (with potential for a paid position as we grow)

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and lead multi-channel fundraising strategies (individual giving, sponsorships, and grants).
  • Develop a donor stewardship plan to retain and recognize supporters.
  • Research and apply for grants and funding opportunities aligned with our mission.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and CFO to set and meet fundraising goals.
  • Cultivate relationships with major donors, foundations, and community partners.
  • Create donor-focused content such as appeals, thank-you letters, and impact reports.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and ensure compliance with nonprofit reporting standards.
  • Recruit and lead a volunteer development team (including potential Grant Writers and Donor Relations Coordinators).
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Events teams to align messaging and campaign timing.
  • Work closely with the CMO to promote fundraising initiatives across marketing platforms.
  • Explore creative fundraising ideas such as merchandise, sponsorships, and virtual events.
  • Represent MWA in donor meetings and at virtual events as needed.
  • Provide monthly development updates and metrics to the CEO.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit development, grant writing, or donor relations (professional or volunteer) is preferred.
  • Proven success in securing donations, sponsorships, or grants is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills tailored to donors and funders.
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and donor stewardship.
  • Preferred experience working with donor CRMs or spreadsheets (e.g., Google Sheets, Zeffy, Airtable).
  • Experience managing volunteers or small teams is a plus.
  • Comfortable with a startup-like environment โ€“ flexible, resourceful, and proactive.
  • Passionate about mental wellness and the power of community-based support.
  • Willingness to collaborate, lead with empathy, and maintain confidentiality when handling donor info.
