These roles often include driving buses, dump trucks, or emergency response vehicles for public services like transportation, waste management, or road maintenance. Drivers must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and meet specific government regulations. Some positions may require additional certifications or security clearances depending on the nature of the job.

What types of vehicles and cargo might I be responsible for as a government CDL driver?

As a government CDL driver, you may operate a variety of vehicles, such as buses, dump trucks, utility vehicles, or tractor-trailers, depending on the specific government agency and assignment. Your cargo might include public equipment, building materials, official documents, or transportation of personnel. The diversity of assignments offers valuable experience across different vehicle types, and you'll typically collaborate closely with other government employees, maintenance teams, and logistics coordinators. This variety helps broaden your skill set and may open paths to specialized roles or career advancement within government transportation services.

To thrive as a CDL Government driver, you need a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), a strong driving record, and knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations.
