Job description

The CDL Driver Trainer provides classroom, yard, and on-the-road instruction to new and existing commercial drivers to drive our dump trucks. This role helps drivers develop safe driving habits, understand company policies, comply with federal and state regulations, and improve overall performance.

Responsibilities

  • Train new CDL drivers on vehicle operation, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Conduct behind-the-wheel training and ride-alongs.
  • Teach compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Evaluate driver skills and readiness for solo operation.
  • Demonstrate proper vehicle inspections, cargo securement, and defensive driving techniques.
  • Monitor driver performance and provide coaching and corrective feedback.
  • Maintain training records, evaluations, and documentation.
  • Assist with onboarding and orientation programs.
  • Support ongoing driver development and refresher training programs.

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL Class A license is required
  • Dump Truck experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
  • Clean driving record with a strong safety history.
  • Several years of commercial driving experience (often 3–5+ years).
  • Strong communication and coaching skills.
  • Ability to conduct classroom presentations and practical training.
