What is a CDL driver for wood chips?

CDL drivers for wood chips are commercial truck drivers who hold a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and are responsible for transporting wood chips from mills, logging sites, or processing plants to various destinations. Their job typically involves operating large trucks or tractor-trailers equipped for hauling loose wood material. These drivers must ensure safe loading and unloading of wood chips, comply with transportation regulations, and maintain their vehicles. The role may also require working long hours and adhering to specific safety and environmental standards related to hauling forestry products.

CDL drivers hauling wood chips often encounter unique challenges such as load shifting, dust management, and navigating rural or off-road delivery sites. To address these, drivers should ensure loads are properly secured and trailers are not overloaded to prevent shifting during transit. Regularly checking and maintaining equipment, using tarps or covers to control dust, and communicating closely with dispatchers and site personnel can help manage these challenges effectively.
