Your Responsibilities as a Trainee Component Driver:
  • Position the tractor to attach the trailer and secure it properly.
  • Operate the truck safely, adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations as well as company policies.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer and submit a DOT inspection report detailing its condition.
  • Utilize the Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH) to document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and any exceptions. Ensure the trailer is secure for safe transport.
  • Accompany a Driver Trainer to various locations, learning about commercial driving regulations and observing essential driving skills.
  • Maintain a driver log (Manual or PeopleNet) in compliance with DOT regulations, documenting delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions.
  • Assist the Driver in unloading the trailer and delivering products to customer locations.
  • Provide excellent customer service, ensuring timely delivery of undamaged products, handling returns, and issuing valid customer credits.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Qualifications for a Trainee Component Driver:
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Must possess a Class A CDL.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Must meet eligibility criteria outlined in the Transfer and Promotion Policy.
  • Willingness and ability to select, load, unload, and deliver all products ordered by customers.
  • Ability to read and understand labels, instructions, and bills of lading.
  • Capable of performing mathematical calculations to verify product quantities.
  • Effective communication skills with customers, management, and team members.
  • Ability to safely operate a tractor-trailer and use equipment such as a 2-wheeled dolly and ramps, along with onboard PeopleNet devices.
  • This role requires proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely, including following work instructions and safety protocols.
