Job description

I. JOB SUMMARY:

Prepare estimates for projects of medium size and complexity or for one particular discipline on large, complex projects. Interface with owner, engineer and contractor to provide cost data regarding project feasibility. Minimum supervision provided when estimating items in own discipline. May independently estimate a small to medium sized project.

II. TYPICAL DUTIES:

· Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required content of estimate. Resolve ambiguities with client.

· Prepare complete estimates utilizing company estimating software. Performing complete quantity take-off of scope of work, develop construction methods and estimate labor and equipment requirements.

· Identify suppliers, prepare inquiries packages and make final evaluation of submitted supplier bids as required.

· Coordinate development of proposal schedule with the scheduler. Support proposal scheduler by calculating activity durations and work sequence as required.

· For assigned projects, organize and lead the Bid Adjudication Meeting.

· Participate in handover/transition meeting to Project Management.

· Maintain files of working documents and quotations for back-up to estimating figures.

· Support other department personnel as required; may include preparing estimates in multiple disciplines.

· Collaborate with other estimators and schedulers in a team environment.

· May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost/schedule factors.

· Assist with awarded contracts as required - may include budget creation, estimating change orders, etc.

· Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

I. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A four-year construction, engineering or related degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience, plus four years estimating, project control, or engineering experience related to company’s core competency. Typical career tenure; year 5-10.

II. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:

· Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline and estimating technique is essential.

· Ability to calculate quantities such as weight, length, area, volume, etc., using basic geometry and trigonometry is required.

· Ability to work in, and make conversions in Metric System is required.

· Ability to read and understand engineering drawing and customer inquiry documents, etc. is essential.

· Knowledge of company procedures and estimating standards, and specialized construction discipline required.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

· Proficiency with standard office software.

III. WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions. Occasional or frequent air travel with overnight stays.

IV. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Manual dexterity, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time;

· Occasional climbing stairs / ladders, bending, stooping, reaching, and crouching;

· Visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents;

· Lifting and / or exerting of force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of lifting / force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of lifting / force constantly to move objects; and

· Frequent driving of motor vehicles.
