What you'll do
You will play a key role in shaping the future of our test infrastructure for spaceflight hardware by developing modern test architecture, automation, and data analysis capabilities. This role combines software development, test system architecture, and data engineering to create scalable solutions that support development, qualification, and production test operations.
  • Own and maintain the organization's automated test architecture environment, including framework configuration, customization, deployment, and long-term evolution.
  • Develop and implement software tools, utilities, and standards that enable consistent test execution across multiple programs and test systems.
  • Support internal and purchased satellite test framework solutions such as CCAF, COSMOS, InControl, and future test architecture platforms.
  • Design and implement automated test data pipelines that transform raw test data into actionable engineering information.
  • Create data visualization, reporting, and analytics solutions that provide clear insight into product performance, test system health, and operational metrics.
  • Develop automated trend analysis and Statistical Process Control (SPC) capabilities to support product quality and manufacturing performance.
  • Create custom applications and dashboards that enable engineers, managers, and customers to efficiently review and understand test results.
  • Support modernization efforts by replacing legacy workflows with scalable, maintainable, and user-friendly software solutions.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, software, manufacturing, and quality engineers to continuously improve test capability and efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain standards for test software, data management, automation, and system integration.

This is a site-based role, employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five-day workweek.
The day-to-day
  • Develop software and automation solutions that improve test execution and engineering productivity.
  • Build and maintain integrations between test systems, instrumentation, databases, and analytics platforms.
  • Create dashboards and interactive reports for engineering reviews, debug efforts, and management visibility.
  • Analyze large datasets from development, qualification, environmental, and production testing to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop automated processing for key data such as:
    • First Pass Yield (FPY)
    • Pass/Fail trends
    • Failure Pareto analysis
    • SPC metrics
    • Measurement trending
    • Reliability and performance indicators
  • Support deployment of software releases, debug, framework updates, patches, and configuration changes.
  • Partner with test engineers to develop reusable test methods, automation libraries, and standard workflows.
  • Investigate test system issues and implement corrective actions that improve reliability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Document software, architecture, standards, and guidelines to ensure long-term sustainability of test systems.

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience developing software applications using Python, C#, Java, or similar programming languages.
  • Experience working with automated test systems and hardware/software integration.
  • Experience developing engineering tools, automation software, or test infrastructure solutions.
  • Experience working with structured data, databases, and data analysis techniques.
  • Ability to independently drive technical solutions from concept through deployment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple engineering fields.

  • Experience supporting spacecraft, satellite, aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability systems.
  • Experience with test architecture frameworks such as COSMOS, CCAF, NI TestStand, LabVIEW, InControl or similar environments.
  • Experience developing enterprise-level engineering data systems and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with telemetry, command and control systems, hardware-in-the-loop testing, or automated test equipment.
  • Familiarity with modern data visualization and dashboard technologies such as Power BI, Grafana, Plotly Dash, or similar tools.
  • Experience implementing Statistical Process Control (SPC), manufacturing analytics, and production yield reporting.
  • Experience developing APIs, software services, and data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with software configuration management, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) to improve software development productivity.
  • Knowledge of test system architecture, instrumentation interfaces, and distributed test environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to define standards, influence technical direction, and lead modernization initiatives across multiple teams.

Salary range
$141,500.00 - $224,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $176,000.00- $264,000.00/ annually
