Job description

Assumption Catholic Church in Washington DC is hiring a Parish Secretary.
This role will report to the Pastor and the hours are:
Tuesday 1:00pm - 4:30pm
Wednesday 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Thursday 1:00pm - 4:30pm
Position Summary
The mission of the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington is to spread the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. In the faithful pursuit of this mission, the Archdiocese is seeking a Parish Secretary. The Parish Secretary reports to and performs general secretarial support for the Pastor.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Greet all visitors
  • Provide receptionist services for the office; take clear and accurate messages
  • Provide secretarial and clerical services to the Pastor
  • Handle correspondence and document preparation for the office
  • Handle routine questions about the parish
  • Maintain and update the Parish calendar.
  • Enter all sacramental information into the Parish records
  • Oversee [prepare] the weekly Parish bulletin; oversee and review all requests
  • Prepare regular and bulk mailing
  • Screen and distribute all incoming mail
  • Maintain filing system
  • Manage inventory and purchasing of general office supplies
  • Provide all recordkeeping services for the office
  • Maintain all records for the office (e.g. directory, mailing list, events calendar, check requests, etc.)
  • Maintain the parish website up to date
  • Open and close the office

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Faithful to the Catholic Church and teachings.
  • Excellent ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to keep information confidential
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Outstanding people skills

Education and Experience:
  • High School graduate
  • Some college or business school training, a plus
  • Three to five years' of administrative experience
  • Excellent working knowledge of Catholic terms and practices
  • Experience in social media in a business setting
  • Experience in creating business correspondence
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft office
  • Knowledge of Parish Soft software
