What is a cath lab radiology tech?

A Cath Lab Radiology Tech, also known as a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Radiologic Technologist, is a healthcare professional who assists physicians during procedures that diagnose and treat heart problems. They operate specialized imaging equipment to visualize the heart and blood vessels, ensuring clear images for accurate diagnosis. These technologists also prepare patients for procedures, maintain a sterile environment, and monitor patient safety throughout the process. Their expertise is vital in supporting cardiologists during minimally invasive cardiac interventions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cath lab radiology tech?

To thrive as a Cath Lab Radiology Tech, you need a solid background in radiologic technology, knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, and typically an associate’s degree along with ARRT or RCIS certification. Familiarity with fluoroscopy, cath lab imaging systems, and sterile technique is crucial for performing diagnostic and interventional procedures. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication help ensure patient safety and collaboration with physicians. These skills are vital for delivering accurate imaging, minimizing risks, and supporting successful cardiac interventions in a high-stakes environment.
