Job Title: Power Systems Division (PSD) Applications Engineer

Location: Elkridge, Maryland

Starting Compensation Range: $85,000 - $115,000 per year

The PSD Applications Engineer is responsible for assisting consulting engineers, contractors, and end-users in the design of power plants that result in the sale of Caterpillar power generation products. This position will assist consulting engineers and contractors with project designs and specifications for Caterpillar standby power systems applications. This includes both mechanical and electrical aspects of a reciprocating engine power plant. In addition, they will use Caterpillar sizing programs as necessary to assist consulting engineers with their designs.

Requirements for the Application Engineer position include:

  • Must be a strong communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize competing deadlines
  • Must be able to train new Engineers effectively
  • Must have good attention to detail
  • Ability to perform calculations for sizing or circuit breakers, wires, and disconnects
  • Must be able to prepare and read drawings to be used in construction and equipment installation
  • Must be able to write and modify specifications; read and interpret contract documents
  • Must have an excellent driving record
  • Must be able to travel to various sites
  • Proven ability to understand, interpret and meet complex customer needs through the preparation of proposal and other documentation

Seeking Candidates with:

  • Minimum one year of experience in electrical power systems, required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering, preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus
