Job description

Senior Personal Lines Underwriter (HNW)

Location: Broomfield, CO or Remote

We are seeking a skilled Personal Lines Property Underwriter to join our underwriting team. As a high-net-worth underwriter, you will evaluate and underwrite complex household and specialty risks for affluent clients. You will collaborate closely with brokers to assess exposures, structure tailored coverages, and support profitable portfolio growth.

We will count on you to:

  • Apply technical expertise and market knowledge to evaluate personal lines exposures, focusing on high-value dwellings, scheduled personal property, and liability coverages.
  • Utilize Catastrophe modeling software and geographic hazard tools to assess and mitigate wildfire exposure for HNW properties.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with broker partners to drive opportunities and support business objectives.
  • Clearly communicate underwriting decisions, terms, and market options to brokers and internal partners.
  • Achieve production targets and portfolio metrics while maintaining acceptable loss ratios.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced underwriting staff regarding HNW products and relevant exposure.

What you need to have:

  • Minimum of 5 years progressive underwriting experience in personal lines with substantial exposure to high net worth accounts.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in insurance, business risk management preferred.
  • Proven experience underwriting risks in wildfire-prone regions, including knowledge of brush clearance standards and structural mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency with underwriting systems, standard office software, and exposure to CAT modeling or geographic risk assessment tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to present complex underwriting rationale to brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple accounts and meet production goals in a collaborative team environment.

What makes you stand out:

  • 7+ years of experience focused specifically on HNW personal lines.
  • Relevant professional designations (e.g., INS, CPCU, AINS) or certifications related to specialty underwriting.
  • A track record of developing strong broker partnerships and growing a profitable book of business.
  • Previous experience in mentoring or leadership capacity.

Why join our team:

  • Flexible, hybrid work schedule with a culture of collaboration and internal mobility.
  • Competitive pay with bonus potential, comprehensive benefits package, generous 401k match and contribution, and vacation commensurate with experience.
  • Learning and development opportunities, including tuition reimbursement and support for professional designation.
