What is a cat babysitter?

Cat babysitters are individuals who provide care and supervision for cats while their owners are away. Their responsibilities typically include feeding, cleaning litter boxes, offering companionship, administering medication if needed, and sometimes playing with or grooming the cats. Cat babysitters may visit the owner’s home for scheduled check-ins or stay overnight, depending on the arrangement. They ensure that the cats remain healthy, comfortable, and safe in their familiar environment during the owner's absence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cat babysitter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cat Babysitter, you need a solid understanding of feline behavior, basic pet care, and experience handling cats safely. Familiarity with pet care apps for scheduling, digital payment systems, and basic animal first aid certification can be valuable. Patience, reliability, and strong communication with pet owners are essential soft skills. These abilities ensure the cat's well-being, foster trust with clients, and lead to a positive, stress-free experience for both pets and owners.

What are some common challenges a cat babysitter might face when caring for multiple cats in one household?

Caring for multiple cats in a single household often means managing varying personalities, dietary needs, and medical routines. Some cats may be shy or territorial, which can require patience and careful introductions to minimize stress. Additionally, keeping track of different feeding schedules, medications, and litter box preferences is important for maintaining harmony and the well-being of each cat. Good organization and strong observation skills help ensure all the cats receive appropriate attention and care.

Part-Time Nanny Position

Pittsburgh, PA • On-site

$25 - $30/hr

Part-time

Posted 21 days ago

Job description

Location: Fox Chapel, PA
Compensation: $25–$30 per hour
Commitment Level: Part-time, live-out
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00–10:00 AM, with occasional late-afternoon pickups as needed
Guaranteed Hours: 15 hours
Start Date: September 1st, 2026

Position Overview

A family with three children — ages 6, 3, and 3 months — is seeking an experienced, reliable Nanny for weekday mornings, with the flexibility to cover occasional late-afternoon pickups. The Nanny will arrive at 7:00 AM and take over the full morning routine for all three children: breakfast, dressing, and getting everyone out the door on time. The 6-year-old is picked up at the house by the school bus; the 3-year-old and infant are driven by the Nanny to daycare approximately 15 minutes away.

The family is also looking for someone who can occasionally step in during the late afternoon to pick the children up from school, daycare, or activities. This is a well-defined role suited to a Nanny who is punctual, calm under time pressure, and confident managing three ages at once — including a warm but firm approach with an older child who is testing boundaries. Comfort caring for a young infant alongside older siblings is essential.

Benefits

  • Guaranteed Hours
  • Parking available at the residence
  • Consistent weekday morning schedule with predictable hours
  • Additional paid hours available for afternoon coverage

Responsibilities:

  • Arrive promptly at 7:00 AM and assume full care of all three children
  • Prepare and serve simple morning items, including breakfast for the children and coffee and pastries for the household
  • Assist children in dressing; clothing is laid out in advance
  • Manage school transportation, including bus pickup at the residence and driving children to school or daycare as scheduled
  • Provide attentive infant care, including feeding, diapering, and safe handling
  • Complete a minimum amount of household laundry during scheduled hours
  • Tidy up after breakfast and reset shared spaces used during the morning
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate activities, outings, and engagement
  • Proactively identify new places to visit and opportunities for the children to explore
  • Assist with occasional errands, including shopping trips with the children and family-related tasks
  • Provide occasional late-afternoon pickups from school, daycare, or activities as scheduled
  • Provide full-day coverage on select holidays, typically 7:00 AM to 4:00 or 5:00 PM

Requirements:

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Demonstrated professional childcare experience, including infant care
  • Reliable own vehicle and valid driver's license
  • Willingness to transport children using family-provided car seats
  • Punctuality and consistency — a firm 7:00 AM start is essential
  • Energetic, playful, and genuinely engaged rather than passive
  • Confident and comfortable taking initiative without waiting for direction
  • Patient but firm approach to age-appropriate limit-testing
  • Able to keep children on schedule and manage a busy morning routine calmly
  • Flexibility to accept occasional afternoon and holiday shifts with reasonable notice
  • Comfortable working in a home with one cat
  • Must be able to provide 3–5 professional references
