Cashier Job Description

A Cashier's primary role is to assist customers in the in-store check-out process. Main duties include ringing up sales, bagging items, requesting price checks, honoring coupons, collecting payment and giving appropriate change. May be responsible for checking materials and supplies and reporting when stock is low.
 Works under immediate supervision of supervisor or manager and must rely on instructions. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Abides by pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. The successful candidate will play a fundamental role in achieving our customer satisfaction and revenue growth objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle cash, credit or check transactions, issue change and receipts with customers
  • Proficiently operate the RDS system
  • Scan goods and collect payments
  • Ensure pricing is correct
  • Close register at the end of the scheduled shift
  • Redeem coupons
  • Acknowledge customer complaints and forward complaints to their supervisor or manager for resolution.
  • Bag items carefully
  • Greet customers when entering or leaving establishment
  • Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas
  • Check customers for proper identification for Alcohol and Tobacco purposes
  • Answer customers' questions and get a manager if answer doesn't solve the issue
  • Bag, box or wrap packages
  • Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure satisfaction
  • Replenish items in checkout areas such as bags and fill candy racks.
  • Remove shopping carts from parking lot at intervals throughout the day and remove any residual trash from shopping carts.
  • Complete the online coarse for the Louisiana Responsible Vendor’s Server Permit
 
 
Physical Demands of this position include but are not limited to requiring the employee to stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision.
