What does it mean to be paid under the table in cash?

Being paid 'under the table' in cash means receiving wages or compensation directly from an employer without official records or tax withholdings. This type of payment is typically not reported to tax authorities, making it illegal in many cases and potentially risky for both the worker and the employer. Workers paid under the table may miss out on legal protections, benefits, and may face penalties if discovered. It's important to understand the legal and financial consequences before accepting such work.

What are some common challenges faced by cash-in-hand workers in terms of job security and benefits?

Cash-in-hand workers, often paid 'under the table,' typically face challenges such as lack of formal job security, absence of health or retirement benefits, and limited legal protections in case of workplace disputes. Since these positions are usually not documented, workers may find it difficult to prove employment history when applying for future roles or benefits. It's important to weigh these considerations carefully and understand the potential risks before accepting cash-only employment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cashier, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cashier, you need strong numerical ability, attention to detail, and basic math skills, usually supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, cash registers, and payment processing tools is essential. Excellent customer service, communication, and reliability are standout soft skills in this position.
