Job Description

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure proper cash flow by processing, balancing, and recording all daily cash remittances in an accurate and timely manner
  • Balance all cash receipts to books of record to support completion of the daily Income Audit function
  • Ensure all company policies, internal controls, and SAQ procedures are followed when issuing floats, petty cash, due backs, and change funds
  • Maintain adequate cash levels to support operational requirements across all hotel departments
  • Administer and control all hotel-issued cash floats, ensuring proper documentation and accountability is maintained at all times
  • Conduct regular and monthly “surprise cash counts” on all operational floats in accordance with SAQ and audit requirements
  • Investigate and reconcile cashier overages and shortages, escalating concerns where appropriate
  • Replenish petty cash as required, ensuring accurate coding and supporting documentation is attached to all paid-out slips
  • Complete monthly reconciliation of all hotel floats
  • Ensure all cash handling procedures comply with company audit standards, SAQ operating procedures, and risk prevention requirements
  • Maintain secure handling, storage, and transportation of cash in line with hotel security protocols
  • Support compliance with cash handling documentation requirements, including Cash Handling Responsibility forms and float sign-out procedures
  • Responsible for replenishment and balancing of all ATM machines on property, including follow-up on outages or service issues
  • Coordinate the collection and reconciliation of cash from outlets
  • Control and maintain records relating to safety deposit box access, ensuring restricted and documented access at all times
  • Assist with storage organization, archiving, and reallocation of accounting and financial records in accordance with document retention policies
  • Support departmental and operational audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit requests where required
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies within the General Cashiering function
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by hotel leadership from time to time
Qualifications
  • Previous accounting, cashiering, or cash handling experience required, preferably within a hospitality environment
  • Strong understanding of cash controls, balancing procedures, and internal audit requirements
  • Working knowledge of systems such as Excel, GFS, Opera PMS, BirchStreet, and other hotel finance systems preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines consistently
  • Professional, trustworthy, and highly confidential in handling financial information
  • Self-motivated with proven initiative and ability to work independently
  • Strong team player with a collaborative approach across operational departments
  • Committed to supporting hotel, departmental, and SAQ compliance objectives
  • Demonstrates strong guest service focus and professionalism at all times
  • Ability to adapt to changing operational demands and support continuous improvement initiatives
