Wheelchair Transport Driver
New Orleans (Full time with weekend availability)

Responsibilities:

  • Safe and Reliable Transportation: Operate a company-provided shuttle/sedan in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations. Safely transport veterans who are disabled within the designated service area and according to the assigned time schedule.

  • Vehicle Inspections: Perform pre and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the vehicle is in proper working condition. Report any mechanical or maintenance issues promptly to the appropriate channels.

  • Passenger Assistance: Assist passengers, including those using wheelchairs or other mobility aids, in boarding and alighting from the vehicle. Properly secure wheelchairs and scooters to ensure passenger safety during transit.

  • Communication and Reporting: Maintain effective communication with dispatch to report any deviations, accidents, passenger incidents, medical or behavioral concerns, or bus mechanical/electrical problems promptly. Complete written reports accurately and promptly for passenger-related matters and accidents.

  • Passenger Guidance: Provide necessary guidance and inform passengers about rules and regulations when necessary, ensuring a safe and comfortable travel experience for all.

  • Luggage Handling: Assist passengers with loading and stowing luggage, ensuring their belongings are handled with care and properly secured during transit.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting: Ability to lift 75lbs from the floor
    Push/Pull: Capability to push/push 80lbs horizontally and at an incline
    Hand Strength amp; Dexterity: Ability to exert up to the 50lbs of force with hand dynamometer
    Climbing: Ability to climb steps
    Kneeling: Ability to kneel and reach the floor
    Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting in excess of 2 hours or more

  • Background Check and Drug Screen: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check with MVR and drug screen is mandatory for all candidates.

  • Vehicle Housing: Must have the ability to provide housing for a vehicle, preferably a commercial utility van, at your residence. The vehicle should also bear the company logo to maintain brand consistency and visibility.
