Job description

The Capacity Portfolio Manager - I is an expert in over-the-road supply chain and is responsible for the execution of carrier strategy, resulting in growth and retention of a complex portfolio of active carrier accounts. This individual creates value by understanding each carrier's goals and preferences and identifying freight that best meets their needs. The Capacity Portfolio Manager - I is focused on delivering an exceptional carrier experience by having a deep understanding of digital, automated, and manual booking solutions and driving capacity utilization through relationship building, problem solving and expert consultation. Accountable for informing contracted carriers of service level requirements so carriers can meet the expectations of the customer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:

Portfolio Growth

  • Develop a deep understanding of carrier's business, growth goals, preferences, capabilities, equipment, and expertise to maximize the relationship, capacity utilization, use of digital products and carrier satisfaction. Execute the carrier strategy for the account, based on the carrier's segment
  • Oversee and monitor activity and/or dormancy of accounts within the portfolio. Take appropriate action to grow inactive or underutilized accounts
  • Inform carriers of and increase engagement with automated booking products including Book it Now, Auto-Book, contractual or dedicated programs, as well as future strategic procurement products, to deliver a simplified booking experience and identify freight that best suits their business needs
  • Drive awareness and benefits of carrier products and initiatives, such as, but not limited to, payment products, drop-trailer, or other capacity programs. Identify which products are best suited to each carrier based on needs and preferences and engage the appropriate internal resources when necessary
  • Lead and drive carrier interaction with the C.H. Robinson platform, via web or Navisphere mobile apps, introduce and inform carriers on new platform features that deliver differentiated carrier value
  • Participate in and/or lead quarterly and/or annual carrier account reviews independently; evaluate current and future business needs, discuss recent volume, quality trends and identifies opportunities for additional business
  • Service/Mode Specific: Is well versed in geography dynamics, including market and capacity trends; collaborates and communicates with Coverage resources (e.g., capacity market managers) within the geography to drive desired results for customers and carriers
  • Capacity Procurement

  • Utilize and interpret carrier analytics and internal pricing tools to guide informed buying/negotiating decisions that are within cost parameters and at market rates
  • Proactively post all available transactional or desired contractual capacity, using complete and accurate details, to enable efficient matching of freight to equipment and support accurate customer pricing and load acceptance
  • Secure both transactional and committed capacity utilizing various methods of communication with carriers
  • Carrier Experience

  • Deliver a superior experience to the carrier by identifying or responding to problems, determining the best course of action, and implementing solutions. Provide leadership visibility to serious or repeated problems
  • Regularly review carrier feedback and respond accordingly, ensuring issues are resolved or escalated when necessary to deliver the best possible experience to the carrier
  • Enable carrier's cash flow by providing cash advances, providing guidance or direct action to resolve payable issues, etc.
  • Quality

  • Work closely with internal partners (account management, operations, digital support, or leadership) on shipment updates, problem resolution and/or operational execution
  • Enable consistent and accurate in transit load visibility
    • Utilize experience and expertise of carrier preferences to inform carriers and reinforce ways an automated solution can improve the experience or drive efficiency
    • Work with carriers to identify most efficient options for providing automated in transit shipment visibility, either via a C.H Robinson mobile app or other automated shipment tracking technology solution chosen by the carrier
    • Provide shipment updates on non-automated loads regularly throughout the day
  • Reinforce with carriers the expectation regarding on time pick-up and delivery requirements. Identify possible root cause issues and partner with carriers to improve results
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned according to the team and/or country specific requirements
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Required:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum 1.5 years of carrier portfolio management experience
  • Site Specific: bi-lingual (Spanish & English) proficiency
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Business Development: Combines knowledge of the market and carrier's business model and how Robinson fits into the carrier's business. Tailors a strategy that meets carrier needs and delivers portfolio growth.
  • Business Relationship Management: Builds and cultivates positive cross functional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, effectively leveraging them to gain support, buy in and enable action.
  • Customer Service: Considers customer and carrier experience and perspective in all aspects of decisions and actions. Provides support throughout the life of shipment to help deliver a positive and mutually beneficial experience.
  • Critical Thinking: Applies knowledge of the industry to deliver the best solutions for the customer or carrier. Leverages the appropriate data, tools and products to evaluate challenges and solutions to solve problems.
  • Strategic Thinking: Focused on finding and developing opportunities to create value for customers, carriers and C.H. Robinson by anticipating opportunities and challenges and utilizing that knowledge to guide decisions, actions and portfolio growth activities.
  • Problem Solving: Defines the problem, determines the cause, identifies and implements solutions; sees issues through to resolution within acceptable timeframes.
