Position Summary

The Clinician provides both direct and indirect clinical services to individuals receiving care through our Detoxification Services programs. Direct services include conducting clinical assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating individual and group counseling sessions, providing crisis intervention, and supporting client stabilization. Indirect services involve participation in clinical supervision, multidisciplinary team meetings, documentation and case notes, and other activities essential to high-quality, coordinated client care. This role plays a key part in supporting individuals as they begin their recovery journey and transition to the next level of care.


Essential Duties

  • Perform assessments, formulate client diagnoses, and provide individual and group therapy services.
  • Provide crisis intervention and appropriate referrals as needed. This means responding to crisis calls and/or clients who enter the program in crisis even if these are not clients assigned to your caseload.
  • Work in collaboration with the Program Directors and case management teams to address crisis and behavioral concerns and provide clinical guidance.
  • Work with the clientโ€™s case manager to plan, coordinate, cooperate or deliver ancillary services necessary for the effective treatment of clients.
  • Participate in clinical staffing weekly and decision making for Detox and Center for Women and Children.
  • Complete all documentation of services and meetings and meet all contractual requirements.
  • Develop and maintain effective therapeutic alliance with clients, including conceptualizing and fostering effective therapeutic process.
  • Maintain clinical records, record service, and develop and update treatment plans as indicated by agency policies and procedures, submit and track authorizations/re-authorizations for funding.

Secondary Duties

  • Work closely with Cornerstone Counseling Center and external treatment providers to assist in connecting clients to treatment services.
  • Maintain good professional relationships with appropriate community partners, referral sources, and other professionals.
  • Maintain and enhance professional skills and knowledge through attending conferences/ workshops/courses and reading professional materials that are relevant to job requirements and approved by supervisor.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with and adherence to Utah laws regarding confidentiality and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain familiarity with issues and trends in the substance use disorder treatment field including comorbid mental health issues, advances in psychopharmacology, theory and evidence-based practices.
  • Perform other functions as necessary or assigned.

  • Masterโ€™s degree from an accredited college or university in a mental health discipline and Utah licensure as a mental health therapist (or eligibility for Utah licensure within 2 years of date of hire).
  • Possess an active/current licensure status and remain in good standing with the Department of Professional Licensing.
  • Work is performed in-person at an office at our detoxification facilities.
  • Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrates an ability to use sound judgment within the scope of the positionโ€™s responsibilities.
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and adapt to change.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail.
  • Driving is required: must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driverโ€™s license, have a good driving record and be insurable on the agency liability policy.
  • Must be able to pass Utah-DHHS โ€“ Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.
