Job description

Job Summary

The Shift Leader runs the floor during their shift at Express Wash on Vaughn, a high-volume express tunnel car wash. This role is the on-site point person when a manager is not present: leading the team, keeping cars moving safely and quickly, driving membership sales, and delivering a great guest experience. The Shift Leader sets the pace and the standard for the crew and reports to the Fast Track Manager.

Success in this role is measured by shift throughput, membership conversion, team execution, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Shift Operations

• Lead daily shift operations and direct team members across tunnel loading and pay stations

• Open and close the site, including equipment start-up, shut-down, and end-of-day checks

• Keep traffic flowing safely and maintain target throughput during peak periods

• Monitor tunnel and equipment for issues and escalate or correct as needed

• Hold the team to safety procedures and standard operating procedures

Team Leadership

• Set the pace, assign positions, and keep the crew focused and energized

• Train and coach team members in the moment on loading, sales, and service

• Fill any position as needed, including tunnel loading and cashiering

• Report performance, attendance, or conduct concerns to the Fast Track Manager

Sales and Customer Experience

• Lead by example on membership sales and coach the team to hit conversion goals

• Greet guests, answer questions, and resolve concerns quickly and professionally

• Promote wash packages and unlimited memberships throughout the shift

Cash and Administrative

• Handle cash and card transactions accurately and oversee shift cash control

• Complete opening and closing counts and shift reporting

• Support the manager with daily tasks and site upkeep

Performance Expectations

• Hit shift throughput and membership conversion targets

• Keep the team safe, productive, and on standard

• Maintain transaction and cash accuracy

• Step up to cover any role on the line when needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

• Previous lead, supervisor, or car wash / retail / hospitality experience preferred

• Comfortable leading a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

• Confident selling and coaching others to sell

• Basic computer and point-of-sale proficiency

• Reliable attendance and punctuality

• Able to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays

• Able to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather
