Carpenter
Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding has openings in Maine for marine and finish carpenters.

A carpenter at Lyman-Morse is responsible for the construction and installation of interior modules, Installation of deck hardware and hatches, cabinetry, furniture, doors, jambs, bulkheads, overheads, floor systems and other items on various projects. They must have a “can do” attitude to go above and beyond to ensure that they produce consistently high-quality woodworking and carpentry services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various carpentry projects as assigned by the Project Manager or the Carpentry Department Manager on a consistent basis.
  • Maintain excellent control of assigned projects underway in terms of estimated and actual hours, start and end dates. Communicate progress with managers.
  • Work efficiently on projects and produce work at a rate and quality appropriate to one’s experience level.
  • Being open to consideration of new technologies, methodologies and processes for specialized carpentry work.
  • Make sure that all work is conducted in a manner to protect oneself and the environment from unsafe exposure to chemicals, odors and other potential harmful effects of components used in carpentry operations.
  • Ensuring that the carpentry shop and the carpenter’s personal workspace is clean and ordered.
  • Report time and materials accurately to the proper Work Order, Operation and Task codes
  • Accurately interpret construction drawings and details provided for each task.
  • Ask appropriate questions and not make assumptions.
  • Maintain notes and drawings provided by the supervisor that are relevant to the tasks until a project is complete.
  • Assist other departments as needed.

Required Experience

  • Experience in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.
  • Proficiency in the planning and execution of high-quality carpentry projects.
  • Knowledge of various joinery procedures and methodologies.

Helpful Educational Experience

  • Associates degree with emphasis on manufacturing, materials management, or related specialties desirable.
  • Carpentry trade school education is a plus.
  • Additional training in various manufacturing and carpentry applications useful.
