Job description

Journeyman Carpenter

Company: MBC Carpentry, LLC.

Location: Portsmouth, Rhode Island (Serving Aquidneck Island and surrounding areas)

Pay Range: $30.00 – $37.00 per hour (Based on experience)

Job Type: Full-time

About MBC Carpentry

Since 2003, MBC Carpentry, LLC. has been delivering top-tier residential construction and high-end remodeling across Rhode Island. We pride ourselves on precision, structural integrity, and building spaces that are made to last. Our team members average over 20 years in the trade, meaning you’ll be working alongside seasoned professionals who respect the craft. We don’t just build houses; we build long-standing careers and prioritize employee retention, stability, and a supportive crew culture.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled, reliable Journeyman Carpenter with a deep passion for residential construction. In this role, you will handle projects from the ground up—tackling everything from heavy structural framing to the final, meticulous interior finish details. If you take pride in seeing a project through from the initial skeleton to the final crown molding, you’ll fit right in.

What You'll Do

  • Framing to Finish: Execute a diverse range of residential carpentry layout, framing (walls, roofs, floors), sheathing, and exterior trim.
  • Fine Finish Carpentry: Install high-end interior trim, baseboards, crown molding, doors, windows, and custom built-ins with exact precision.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan layouts and material needs accurately.
  • Problem Solving: Efficiently troubleshoot layout discrepancies or structural challenges common in remodeling older Coastal Rhode Island homes.
  • Safety & Teamwork: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site while collaborating closely with the project lead and apprentices.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional residential carpentry experience (framing and finish work are both required).
  • Tools: Must possess a complete set of personal hand tools and basic cordless power tools appropriate for a journeyman-level carpenter.
  • Reliability: A valid driver's license and dependable personal transportation to commute to job sites around Portsmouth and surrounding areas.
  • Eye for Detail: High standards for quality control. You care about the details that the client sees, as well as the structural elements they don't.
  • Professionalism: Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a respectful demeanor when interacting with clients on site.

Why Join the MBC Team?

  • Competitive Compensation: Great hourly pay ($30–$37/hr) with steady, year-round local work.
  • A Culture That Retains: We have a reputation for keeping our guys long-term because we treat our crew with the respect professionals deserve.
  • Skill Growth: Work on beautiful, custom coastal properties alongside highly experienced tradesmen.
