Job Summary:
Carpenter Technology Corporation is a leading producer and distributor of premium specialty alloys, and they are seeking a Manager of Application Engineering to lead the innovation, development, and application of advanced materials solutions. This role serves as a critical bridge between customer application insights and internal product development teams, driving ideation and enabling breakthrough products for performance-critical markets such as aerospace and defense.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the innovation, development, and application of products from ideation through market launch.
• Advise leadership on product and process development strategies.
• Co-own the business development funnel to align with strategic growth initiatives.
• Contribute to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for product development programs.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Master’s degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline required.
• 3+ years of experience in application engineering, product development, or technical marketing—preferably in the metals, aerospace, or defense sectors.
• Strong understanding of specialty alloys (e.g., high‑performance stainless steels, superalloys, titanium) and associated manufacturing methods.
• Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly across disciplines and customer-facing environments.
• Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration to define product specifications and accelerate development timelines.
• Experience contributing to strategic planning and organizational direction.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile and assess research data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence technical and strategic discussions.

• Curiosity-driven mindset with ability to identify latent customer needs and generate innovative solutions.
• Lead definition of key application requirements in emerging markets and translate insights into actionable development programs.
• Conduct market intelligence gathering, including competitive and patent landscape analysis, to guide product strategy.
• Define product performance targets and partner with teams to rapidly assess feasibility using agile prototyping and testing.
• Generate and validate next-generation product concepts informed by customer feedback and system-level understanding.
• Support technical marketing with application-based value propositions and early-stage customer engagement.
• Monitor and interpret industry standards, certification requirements, and competitive benchmarks.
• Contribute to innovation pipeline activities, including structured ideation sessions and business case inputs.
• Demonstrated strong business acumen.
