Job Summary:
The Master Diesel Fleet Mechanic position involves caring for and maintaining vehicles and vessels to assure fleet readiness and compliance with Company and Regulatory standards. Must be capable of carrying out preventive maintenance tasks to ensure fleet vehicles operate without defects and in a safe, proper fashion. The Master Diesel Fleet Mechanic must be capable of troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing faulty equipment of all kinds. Must be capable of diesel engine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair, as well as transmission, suspension, steering, and electronic diagnostics and repair.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Assist Fleet Maintenance & Equipment Supervisor in directing activities of Fleet Mechanics, Apprentices, and Interns.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Ensure proper completion of Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports and respond to noted conditions.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair faulty equipment.
  • Keep up with shop safety protocols and cleanliness.
  • Perform inspections and service events.
  • Conduct housekeeping and caretaker duties in the shop.
  • Maintain records of accomplished tasks and return requested documentation to Client Management. This would include completing FHWA annual inspection reports and USDOT test/inspection reports as mandated by 49 CFR part 180 Subpart E.
  • Respond to vehicle emergencies, which may require traveling to a vehicle or the plant for roadside repair.
  • Respond to request to move equipment.
  • Conduct brake, tire, and suspension inspections.
  • Maintain records of accomplished tasks and return such documentation daily to management.
  • Must be on call and available after normal business hours to make emergency road calls or provide verbal instructions to stranded drivers.
  • Possess computer skills, including but not limited to the ability to read vehicle diagnostics, reconcile electronic DVIRs, create electronic work orders, and order parts and supplies through the purchasing department.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with pneumatics and hydraulics.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Capable of carrying out preventive maintenance tasks to ensure fleet vehicles operate without unnecessary faults and in a safe, proper fashion.
  • Capable of using Outlook and Excel sheets.
  • Capable of troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing faulty equipment.
  • Capable of diesel engine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Capable of coordinating and accomplishing all areas of truck-tractor maintenance and repair, including, but not limited to, body and chassis, engine, transmission, DEF repairs, DPF and SCR system, service systems (fuel, electrical, etc.), painting, tires and axles, suspension, braking, drive train, lubrication, ABS etc.
  • Capable of transportation equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Familiar with cargo tank test and inspection requirements found in 49 CFR 180 Subpart E.
  • Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A, with tanker and hazmat endorsements to move tractors and trailers between all Kuehne locations and facilities.
  • Must be able to perform internal engine and transmission work.
  • Must possess own tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to pass a 10-panel controlled substance testing and random testing after that.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation check and maintain in good standing order, as per TSA's TWIC criteria.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification- MUST.
  • Master technician certification from the Institute for Automotive Service,
  • MVAC 609 Certification.
  • Three to five years of related experience is required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with odors present.
  • Must be able to inspect vehicles visually to determine repairs needed.
  • Good vision to inspect repair work.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
  • Must lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist height.
  • Must be able to carry 50 lbs. for short distances.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions for extended periods.
