Description:

National Airlines, based in Orlando, FL, operates passenger charter service as well as customized military and commercial air cargo carriages worldwide. National Airlines specializes in over-sized, time sensitive, and special handling requirements, utilizing 747-400 and A330 aircraft to accomplish its missions.


Job Title: Loadmaster

Location: Orlando, FL (Home Based)

Department: Operations

Reports To: Chief Loadmaster

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Summary: Loads freight on to the organizations 747 aircraft in accordance with Cargo Operations and Weight and Balance, Manuals, with placement ensuring proper weight and balance for the aircraft type. Ensures accuracy of paperwork handed off to aircraft crews.


Duties, Responsibilities, and Authority:

  • Directs and supervises the loading and offloading of the aircraft
  • Reviews the location of any missing restraint (Beartrap, side lock, etc.) and advises Maintenance for any corrections
  • Physically verifies that all voided/unusable loading positions, both on the main deck and lower deck, are in the locked/up position (secured to prevent movement of ULD both forward and aft)
  • Prepares or supervises the operations of cargo weight and balance documents related to the operation of the flight, including determining any limitations resulting from a missing or inoperative cargo handling/restraint system and their components
  • Confirms load and proper ULD contour
  • Ensures ULDs for loading are properly tagged and labeled
  • Confirms proper tie-down as per the aircraft and STC manufacturers’ Weight and Balance Manuals and Special Loading instructions
  • Determines the serviceability: pallet, container, nets, and straps should be examined by the Loading Supervisor for gouges, depressions, delaminated panels, cracked edge rails, bowing, and missing corners and rivets to meet Company requirements and standards
  • Calculates the weight and balance and restraint of cargo and signs the load manifest.
  • Accepts and handles HazMat and frangible load requirements
  • Operates and supervises aircraft cargo handling system
  • Supervises proper ULD build-up
  • Ensures the weight of cargo loaded aboard the airplane is accurate
  • Ensures Tail Stand is being properly used
  • Visually inspects the Aircraft for possible damage caused by ground support equipment
  • Takes paperwork to the cockpit, including the Load Manifest and HazMat Notification (when applicable)
  • Signs both copies of the Load Manifest after the aircraft is loaded, verifies that the aircraft was loaded in compliance with the Company’s loading procedures
  • Verifies all pallet locks are properly installed and in the locked position
  • Provides both copies of the signed Load Manifest to the Captain for their review and signature and requests the flight crew return one copy of the signed load manifest and signed dispatch release for mailing to the Company’s headquarters.

Qualifications:

  • Aviation background with experience on heavy jet aircraft preferred
  • Basic math and writing skills
  • Ability to comply with weight and balance and cargo placement directions
  • Analytical skills and good judgment/decision making
  • Ability to complete computerized weight and balance
  • Ability to operate machinery

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Competencies:

  • Ability to comply with weight and balance, cargo placement directions.
  • Experience with heavy jet commercial aircraft (B777/B747 preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous or currently quailed on B747 freighter Loadmaster or other wide body aircraft
  • Experience in freight build-up and load planning
  • Current or previous Hazmat qualification.

Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to summarize and effectively present information to customers.
  • Ability to work on problems of moderate scope and analyze data/situations.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.

Physical Demands:

  • Moderate activity handling objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently. (Medium)
  • Frequently moves and distributes passenger luggage.
  • Constantly positions self to work in warehouse environments.

Work Environment:

  • Works inside aircraft during aircraft provisioning process and during boarding process
  • Works inside the ramp-side storage area managing aircraft supply inventory.
  • Exposed to outside weather ranging from tropical heat/humidity to northern tier cold/ice.

Travel/Other requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Valid, unrestricted Passport with ability to travel in/out of the United States.
