What is a cargo container?

Cargo containers, also known as shipping containers, are large, standardized metal boxes used to store and transport goods efficiently across long distances. They are designed for easy handling and transfer between ships, trains, and trucks, making global trade more organized and secure. Most cargo containers are made from steel and come in standard sizes, such as 20-foot and 40-foot lengths, to ensure compatibility with international shipping systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cargo container handler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cargo Container Handler, you need physical fitness, spatial awareness, and a high school diploma or equivalent, often with specialized training in warehouse operations. Proficiency with forklifts, cranes, and inventory management systems is typically required, along with certifications such as OSHA forklift certification. Attention to detail, teamwork, and strong communication skills help ensure safety and efficiency in busy shipping environments. These abilities are crucial for preventing accidents, ensuring proper cargo handling, and maintaining smooth logistics operations.

What are some common challenges faced by cargo container handlers, and how can they be addressed?

Cargo Container Handlers often encounter challenges such as managing heavy and oversized loads, working in varying weather conditions, and adhering to strict safety protocols. Effective communication with team members and attention to detail are essential to prevent accidents and ensure cargo is handled efficiently. Many employers provide regular safety training and offer specialized equipment to help mitigate risks. Staying proactive about equipment maintenance and following established procedures can make daily operations smoother and safer.

Job description

Position Definition

Covenant Aviation Security (CAS) is seeking Part-Time, On-Call Cargo Screeners to support overnight UPS cargo screening operations at Ontario International Airport (ONT). This position serves as a relief team member, providing coverage when full-time Cargo Screeners are unavailable due to vacation, illness, training, or other operational needs.
