Join the Vail Health Intensive Care Unit and build your career in a collaborative, high-performing team set in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Our 5-bed ICU cares for both our local community and visitors from around the world, offering a diverse and rewarding critical care experience.

Our ICU nurses are highly respected clinicians who serve on the hospital's Rapid Response Team and collaborate across multiple departments, expanding their skills while making a meaningful impact throughout the organization. Our collaborative staffing model is designed to support both patients and caregivers, featuring an unencumbered charge nurse dedicated to mentoring staff, coordinating patient care, and providing real-time clinical support throughout every shift. Combined with engaged leadership available 24/7, you'll join a team that values teamwork, clinical excellence, and continuous growth.

Night Shift Support That Makes a Difference: We recognize the unique demands of working nights and are committed to helping our caregivers succeed. Night shift nurses receive dependable rest breaks, access to the Night Shifter app for sleep and wellness resources, and guaranteed hours for full-time or part-time staff. Night shift differential applies.

This is a part time (2x 12 hour shift) night shift position working 7pm-7am.
 
 
About the opportunity:

This position assumes responsibility and accountability for providing nursing care for patients and their families. Assure expert, compassionate, individualized nursing care for patients and families is expected. They collaborate with providers, staff and other members of the team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

What you will do:
  1. Oversees the daily patient flow to optimize patient care, safety and satisfaction.
  2. Demonstrates ability to prioritize incoming patient requests for services.
  3. Delivers patient education to facilitate plan of care, employer informed healthcare choices, and promote optimal wellness.
  4. Demonstrates ability to delegate care appropriately and according to Colorado statute.
  5. Demonstrates competent healthcare assessment skills, prioritizing skills and critical thinking skills and problem solving skills.
  6. Demonstrates ability to handle high telephone volume of patient requests for medications, information and assistance.
  7. Administers medications, performs treatments, and assists in procedures as needed; consistently adhering to patient safety guidelines.
  8. Coordinates patient care with other disciplines on the health care team, Vail Health and others as needed to achieve the highest possible level of patient care and satisfaction.
  9. Demonstrates ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  10. Delivers excellent service by utilizing Relationship-Based Care to advocate for safety, patient preferences, and optimal communication through partnering with patients and families.
  11. Role models the principals of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

What you will need:
 
Experience:
  • One year of critical care experience strongly preferred.
License(s):
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado or from a valid compact state required.
Certification(s):
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) required.
  • CCRN preferred.
Computer / Typing:
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
 
Education:
  • Minimum of Associate Nursing Degree for positions hired after 07/01/2018.
