Child Watch Lead Job Description

Position Summary

The Child Watch Lead ensures a safe, caring, and fun learning environment for children ages 6 weeks to 7 years while parents are utilizing the YMCA facilities. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Encourage member and parent involvement and identify potential volunteers.

Plan and organize age appropriate activities. Play actively with the children. Adapt activities to the needs of each.

Monitor the health and socialization of children daily.

Provide appropriate discipline of children, as necessary, according to YMCA policy and procedures.

Assist child with personal maintenance, as needed by the child.

Monitor the drop-off and pick-up of children to guarantee their safety while in our care.

Greet parents and help children feel welcome. Communicate regarding their child's behavior.

Responsible for providing a safe, fun environment for children in our Child Watch facility.

Assist and support the supervision of the youth programs under the directions of the program director.

Complete periodic head counts and document on Child Watch Chart.

Complete accident and incident reports.

Prepare Child Watch Kiosk for members to sign-up child into the program.

Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.

Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.

Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.

Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

One year or more of related experience preferred.

Previous experience working with children of all ages preferably in a program setting and diverse populations.

Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills.

Knowledge and skills in program activities and related office equipment, and the ability to instruct youth classes in sports, games, and activities.

Possess the knowledge and skills needed to support youth staff and classes.

CPR, First Aid, AED certifications preferred.

Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move a higher amount.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Occasionally may need to plan and participate in programming outdoors.
