Job description

The Care Assistant is part of the care support team that provides basic assistance to Nurse Techs, Phlebotomists, Radiology Techs, Lab Techs, and any other positions as indicated and approved by the care team. The position may be responsible for duties such as giving patients water, changing bed linens, restocking linen carts, assisting with bathing patients, answering call lights, patient observation, patient transport, or other duties as assigned. This position is part of the high school work-based learning program and will introduce students in the Healthcare pathway to the various jobs available within the hospital. This position will shadow various positions and observe the responsibilities of the assigned area(s). Students in this position will be required to attend meetings when required by the organization as part of their educational journey. The Care Assistant position is only available to enrolled students of an eligible high school work-based learning program. At the end of the program, students must be selected for continuing employment in an eligible position.
Requirements:Must be enrolled in an eligible high school work-based learning program in the Healthcare pathway. (Other pathways may be acceptable depending on business need.) Must have a basic understanding of healthcare/hospital operations.
In the cardiology setting, the Care Assistant will initially shadow the EKG techs and gain competency in performing 12 lead EKGs and applying cardiac monitoring devices. Once competency is demonstrated, the Care Assistant may perform these tasks independently with continued support and competency verification by the cardiology team.
